7 days of eBay – Day 3

Day 3 of my eBay listings and today it is an old Maxi-Cosi isofix base.  My children are now 4 and 2 years old and there is definitely no chance of us having a 3rd (2 is plenty enough!)

The car seat itself is a bit worse for wear so I think the best place for that is probably the tip.  It’s had sick, snot, melted chocolate and all sorts of other unworldly liquids over it.  The base however is still in really good condition, as it should be.

For those that are visiting my blog for the first time and are wondering what I’m up to…  I’m currently in a bit of debt with credit cards and, after months of only being able to afford the minimum payment, now is the time to take some control back and work towards getting them cleared.  It’s nothing too severe, but they definitely are a bit of a noose around my neck.

Update

  • Jack and Jones Gilet from Day 1 – Currently has 2 watchers but no bids yet
  • Xbox 360 from Day 2 – Lots of views but nobody biting just yet

I’m currently thinking of some other ways of raising some money too.  eBay is great but, unless I’m going to auction off the entire contents of my house, it isn’t much use in the long run.  I certainly couldn’t pay off all my debts from it.  If anyone has any suggestions I’d love to hear them!

7 days of eBay – Day 2

Brilliant – I’ve managed to keep the motivation up from yesterday’s eBay listing and today, as promised, I’ve listed another item – my 2nd in 2 days!

Little victories and all that…..

Today I have listed my Xbox 360.  It’s in really good condition and to be honest we do still use it but nowadays it just plays my little’uns DVD’s and not much else.  DVD’s that we have on the Sky Box in truth.  It means it has become pretty much redundant as I don’t get the chance to do much ‘gaming’ anymore (apart from Football Manager on the Mac, nobody can drag me away from that!).

I’m not expecting it to go for a huge amount but any helps.  Getting rid of this debt will be a long road with many little victories.

For those interested in how my Gilet is getting on – 1 watcher….

Little victories….

28 Steps to £1,000,000

Picture the scene…  It’s 1st January 2017 and your fairy godmother has magically appeared and offered the following

£1,000,000 or 1p?

You’d be daft not to take the 1 million wouldn’t you??  But then, your fairy godmother explains that the 1p will be doubled every day.  So, on day 2 it will be 2p, day 3 – 4p, day 4 – 8p etc etc

Would you still take the million??

What if I told you that if you doubled your money every day for the 31 days of January you would have a nice total of £10,737,418.24.  That’s right!  £10 million!!

There is a challenge that has been knocking around the internet (and my mind) for quite a while.  It takes 28 steps of doubling your money to reach £1 million.

  • Step 1 – Find 1p
  • Step 2 – 1p-2p
  • Step 3 – 2p-4p
  • Step 4 – 4p-8p
  • Step 5 – 8p-16p
  • Step 6 – 16p-32p
  • Step 7 – 32p-64p
  • Step 8 – 64p-£1.28
  • Step 9 – £1.28-£2.56
  • Step 10 – £2.56-£5
  • Step 11 – £5-£10
  • Step 12 – £10-£20
  • Step 13 – £20-£40
  • Step 14 – £40-£80
  • Step 15 – £80-£160
  • Step 16 – £160-£320
  • Step 17 – £320-£640
  • Step 18 – £640-£1280
  • Step 19 – £1280-£2560
  • Step 20 – £2560-£5000
  • Step 21 – £5000-£10000
  • Step 22 – £10000-£20000
  • Step 23 – £20000-£40000
  • Step 24 – £40000-£80000
  • Step 25 – £80000-£160000
  • Step 26 – £160000-£320000
  • Step 27 – £320000-£640000
  • Step 28 – £640000-£1280000

You’ll notice that Step 1 is to find 1p.  There is method in this madness.  The idea of the challenge is to start with absolutely nothing, diddly-squat!  And, alongside this, is the idea that if you find the first 1p then you have invested absolutely nothing.

It is also really important that you concentrate only on the particular step that you are on.  So, if you are on Step 6 for example your only aim is to double your money from 16p-32p.  You mustn’t focus on any other step.  The idea is that by the time you reach the later steps you have learn’t how to make your money work.

My job now is to concentrate on Step 1 and find 1p….  Wish me luck!

7 days of Ebay – Day 1

7 days of eBay…

I’m on a journey.  It started a couple of weeks ago when I decided that, rather than being haunted by the regular credit card bills that were coming in, I was going to be pro-active and take control.

Over the coming weeks and months I’m hoping that, by doing lots of different things, I can start to take chunks out of the credit cards and other little bits that we owe.  Hopefully by writing it all down it will help keep me focussed!

So I’m starting with 7 days of eBay.  Kind of a homage to the 12 days of Christmas if you like…  (it’s December 11th today so that kind of fits in!).  Very simple rules – I’m going to add a different item to Ebay over the next 7 days and report back.

I’ll also be keeping a running total of earnings and hopefully a running total of debt reductions too (once I’ve worked out how much I actually owe…)

First on the chopping board is my Jack & Jones Mustard Hooded Gilet.  Put on eBay for 12.50 so fingers crossed a nice little sale.
